PLAYING OPPORTUNITIES
At First Tee – Western New York, we believe that the game of golf provides the opportunity for kids to uncover their inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that they can carry to everything they do. This is evident when kids get out on the actual golf course and learn in an authentic environment. Please read the descriptions of the playing opportunities below that are available to First Tee WNY participants.
On Course Learning Experiences:
This opportunity is designed for participants who want to get out and play holes on the golf course. These will be held at a variety of courses in Rochester and Buffalo on set days to provide the opportunity for participants to play on the golf course outside of their registered class time. A First Tee – WNY Coach will supervise groups and participants will play as many holes as possible in a 2-hour window. You can expect your child to apply all of the concepts taught in class and keeping score is optional.
We currently offer On Course Learning Experiences for experienced participants as well as beginners. The beginner opportunity is for participants who have little/no experience on the golf course. This opportunity will emphasize pace of play, etiquette, and how to keep score. The experienced section is for participants who have some experience on the golf course and understand the basics of course etiquette. These sections will focus on course management/strategy as well as other higher level concepts.
Parent/Child Tournaments:
This opportunity is designed to provide participants and an adult of their choosing, a chance to play in a competitive alternate-shot style format with another pairing. Teams are expected to keep an accurate score and turn in their scorecard at the end of their play. Teams are also expected to follow the etiquette and rules of golf learned at First Tee class and other First Tee Playing Opportunities.
Teen Playing Nights (Ages 13+)
This new offering gives participants the opportunity to get out on the course and play with other teens. Participants can meet new people and choose to play casually or competitively during their round. Participants will play a full 9 holes while a coach bounces between groups to check on them. This experience is more hands off from a coaching perspective and should be viewed as a social practice opportunity rather than an instructional opportunity.
